Join us in the LGRC A104 Makerspace for a series of talks (plus lunch!) by engineers from Meta! Attend for any number of the following talks:

10AM: Firmware All The Way Down: Demystifying the Computers Inside Your Computer

  • Speaker: Tom Hebb, Security Engineer at Meta
  • Description: Tom Hebb is a Security Engineer at Meta working on Red Team X, a top-notch security research team. This talk will give an introduction to firmware reverse engineering techniques used throughout the security industry, including at big tech companies such as Meta. 

11AM: Preparing for Big Tech: Industry, Roles, and Interviews

  • Speaker: Arun Dunna, Software Engineer at Meta
  • Description: Arun Dunna is a Software Engineer at Meta working in Social Impact, an organization dedicated to building products and features focused on positive societal impact, such as Facebook/Instagram Fundraisers for Nonprofits. This talk will cover information about the tech industry and how to plan your career, including tips for interviews, resumes, landing internships and full-time offers, etc.

12PM: Meta Lunch and Chat

  • Description: Join us from 12pm - 1pm on Wednesday, Nov 29 in the LGRC A104 Makerspace for a Meta-sponsored lunch chat with engineers. A few engineers from Meta across different roles will be present, and will be happy to chat with students about life/work at Meta, their journeys from school to industry, etc. There will also be some Meta swag for students to enjoy! 

1PM: Public Data on Social Media for Academic Research

  • Speaker: Chen Xie, Software Engineer at Meta
  • Description: Chen Xie is a Software Engineer at Meta working on the Public Interest Products Team, a team that works on building libraries and APIs for academic researchers. This talk will cover public data at Meta and in industry, how it's used in research, challenges and pitfalls, and more.
