About
Hamed Zamani's research focuses on designing and evaluating statistical and machine learning models with applications to (interactive) information access systems, including search engines, recommender systems, question answering. His current focus is on developing efficient and effective neural models for core information retrieval (IR) tasks as well as emerging areas, such as conversational information seeking and retrieval-enhanced AI.
Zamani joined the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at UMass Amherst as an assistant professor in 2020. Previously, he worked as a researcher at Microsoft.
Zamani serves on the program committees for major conferences in information retrieval (SIGIR, CIKM, WWW, WSDM, etc). He is also an Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Information Systems (TOIS). His work has led to multiple paper awards and honorable mentions from ICTIR 2019, CIKM 2020, SIGIR 2022, SIGIR 2023, and SIGIR 2024. He is a recipient of NSF CAREER Award as well as ACM SIGIR Early Career Excellence in Research and Community Engagement Awards.
