About
Renu Chipalkatti '87MS has been a corporate entrepreneur throughout her career. She has launched numerous products and programs for both consumer and enterprise markets capitalizing on early technology innovations. Serving as the general manager, responsible for all aspects of the business, from concept to sales, she consistently developed innovations into new lines of business delivering several hundred million dollars in revenue over the course of her career.
In her previous position as the global head of new business for Vertical Industry, she initiated industry-specific solutions for various vertical markets, such as healthcare, retail, and energy, covering areas such as IoT, big data, and sustainability.
In the early days of the Internet, Renu drove the expansion beyond "connectivity service" and launched what were then called broadband applications, such as cloud storage, multimedia apps, and security services. Renu co-founded Superpages.com - the leading online yellow pages Internet service - in 1996, and led its development and operations until its divestiture in 2001. Renu also co-led the digitization of Verizon processes, resulting in significant annual savings for the company.
Additionally, throughout her career, Renu has served as a thought leader, leading several strategic programs within Verizon. At the time of her retirement, she was Global Head of Vertical Industry Solutions, at Verizon, responsible for customer experience across the entire suite of Verizon consumer products.
Renu has an M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a B.S. degree in Physics from Bombay University. She has co-authored numerous papers and patents. She is a recipient of an Outstanding Achievement and Advocacy Award from UMass Amherst's College of Information and Computer Sciences.
