About
Virginia is a Data Scientist with special interests in natural language processing, information retrieval and computational linguistics who manages the Data Science for the Common Good internship program at the Center for Data Science. Her technical strengths are designing and evaluating AI, ML & NLP systems and experiments, ensuring that they align with users' needs in context and building actionable workflows for managing, annotating and analyzing data. Virginia enjoys coordinating with academic, non-profit, and public sector partners to solve their technical challenges and leveraging data to advance research and organizational goals. During her first three years at UMass, Virginia managed over 30 students and was involved in over 10 projects, many of which have resulted in functional prototypes and publications. Virginia holds a Master's in Computer Science from UMass Amherst, a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Computer Science, and Mathematics from Brandeis University and was a participant in the Russian Flagship program through Bryn Mawr College and the U.S. Department of State's Critical Language Scholarship program.
