Undergraduate Computer Science Program Rises Six Spots in National 2025 U.S. News & World Report Rankings
Program maintains its #1 spot among public institutions in the Northeast.

In the U.S. News & World Report rankings published this week, the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at UMass Amherst ranks #34 among all 584 ranked public and private undergraduate omputer science programs in the nation, up six spots from the 2024 rankings and tied with the University of California Santa Barbara, University of Virginia, University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and University of Colorado Boulder.
Among public undergraduate computer science programs, CICS is ranked #16 nationally and maintains the #1 spot among public programs in the Northeast.
The U.S. News & World Report undergraduate computer science rankings reflect the judgment of deans and senior faculty members at programs from peer institutions. U.S. News also uses peer assessment to rank programs in the artificial intelligence specialty area, where CICS ranks #20.
At the campus level, the University of Massachusetts Amherst maintained its status as one of the nation's best public universities, ranking #26 in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Guide.
