Jack Wileden has been on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Amherst since 1978, and is currently a professor of computer science and director of the Convergent Computing Systems Laboratory.

Wileden is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery, a senior member of IEEE, and a golden core member of the IEEE Computer Society. He has served as an editor of the IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, as an ACM National Lecturer, and as an IEEE Distinguished Visitor. He received the IEEE CS Meritorious Service Award in 1995 and the IEEE CS Golden Core Member Award in 1997. He has presented tutorials on interoperability, object management, and on tools for developers of distributed software systems in the U.S., South America, Europe, Australia, and Japan.
